The numbers refer to The Met's Modern & Contemporary Art Collection - the artists who made the 14,350 artworks were identified by gender: 2,027 artworks are by women; 10,829 are by men;
48 are named artists but have not yet been identified by gender; 128 are couple / collaboratives with both women and men; and 1,318 artworks are by unknown artists. The Met csv data
